Discworld Convention - Day Two!

4 August 2018

by Jemma

Another big day! Today the Megapode wishes to be addressed as he, and has asked for yet another pronoun sticker from registration. The sticker patch on the Megapode’s badge is getting bulky, and the Megapode is happy about it! He feels safe being gender fluid here, and knows no one will judge him.

As he is now an old hand[1] the Megapode plans on going to the (in)famous newbie introduction item Der Troll's Guide For Der Confused where he plans to heckle the presentation. He’s been told that’s a long standing tradition, and he hates flying in the way of tradition!

The rest of the day is going to be difficult to plan ahead - so many amazing sounding things and all of them clashing with at least one other amazing item…

The Megapode wanted to join a brotherhood, but didn’t have a cloak, so instead will try and sneak into one of the meetings under someone else’s cloak and hope no one notices. If he’s very careful, no one will know which Brotherhood he chose to join!

After the Brotherhood meeting he will go to the gopher & watch briefing, to offer his help as a master sleuth and world traveller. He is sure his experience in other Discworld Conventions will be immeasurable!

In between running around as a Brotherhood member, gopher & watch, the Megapode also plans on going to all the programme items. He’d list them below, but that’s just a reprint of the programme, so he’ll settle for the Must See items:

Rob Wilkins is interviewing Paul Kidby, and both of them will be signing books afterwards - the Megapode hopes he can get his colouring book signed by both, and hopes no one notices how he didn’t keep within the lines…[2]

There is also a behind the scenes of Good Omens item, and the Megapode is very excited for that one - the item they did about this at the North American Discworld Convention did not leave a single dry eye in the house, and Good Omens is by far his favourite Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett collaboration!

Finally there’s the wonderful Maskerade, with people in amazing costumes putting on wonderful performances to entertain everyone. The Megapode decided not to enter into the Maskerade as it’s not fair to everyone else - he’s so pretty he will outshine them all…

And after the Maskerade, there is a tale of a legen…wait for it...dary Hedgehog Party! The Megapode plans on regaling people with stories of his travels in Genua and Ankh Morpork, and will try not to drink too much[3]

[1] He’s been here since Thursday, after all.
[2] Colouring pencils are tricky without opposable thumbs, ok?
[3] Though, no promises.
