Discworld Convention Programme 2018!

23 July 2018

by Jemma

Yes, it's finally the day! The Programme team has been feverishly working away behind the scenes to accomplish the impossible once more - rooms and events have been wrangled and jostled, and the need for quantum has been successfully avoided, thus allowing for a Programme which fits firmly within its Roundworld limitations, and doesn't call for, say, the addition of non-existent rooms or hours[1].

The full Programme can be viewed at your leisure by clicking here.

As well as on the website, you can also access programme information through the Grenadine Event Guide app for iPhone and Android. This has several advantages over the website or the paper version in the ReadMe - including the ability to create your own schedule, and notifications when events change! The event code you need is: DWCon2018. If you were still signed into Grenadine from last time (or other Conventions!), go to 'Switch conference' in the app menu and search for the event code.

While we are delighted to unveil the Programme today, we do need to make one caveat: Things Can And Do Change.

The Convention is a large event, and there are many programme items listed simultaneously. Since sending the final programme off to the printers there have already been changes[2].   And while these can be updated relatively easily online, for those Members wishing to use the print version as a guide during the Convention itself, we ask that you make note of the following amendments, all of which relate to Saturday 4 August:

  • The Tools For Writing panel with Diane Duane, Peter Morwood & Mark Oshiro has moved from L-Space1 at 16:00 to Pseudopolis Yard at 09:00
  • Klatch: Stephen Briggs moved from 15:00 to 11:00, location remains Klatch room
  • Klatch: Daniel Knight moved from 11:00 to 15:00, location remains Klatch room
  • Stephen Briggs’ item Lifting Pratchett off the Page from The Patrician’s Palace at 17:00 to Pseudopolis Yard at 16:00
  • Troll Bridge Unleashed moved from Pseudopolis Yard at 9:00 to The Patrician’s Palace at 17:00
  • Readthrough of 'Men At Arms' moved from 16:00 to 17:00, location remains Pseudopolis Yard
  • Stephen Briggs’ Signing session has moved from 18:00 to 17:00, location remains the Scorpion Pit
  • Bernard Pearson’s item On traveling the byways and highways of life in the company of a remarkable man has moved from Pseudopolis Yard  to L-Space 1, time remains the same (17:30)

Any further changes to the Programme will be announced online and uploaded to Grenadine.  And at the Convention a full list of amendments can be found on the announcements board outside Ops.

[1] Though theoretically this would have made the Convention more interesting, it turns out that breaking the laws of Physics is sadly beyond our reach as yet.

[2] Think of this as final programme 2.0 if you will.
