On the Subject of Remembrance

A little less than two weeks ago we buried a dear member of this community, Gary "Hunter" Webber. Gaz has been a part of the Discworld community for a very long time and a close friend to many of us. Sadly I was not able to attend the funeral, as I live outside of the UK, but I am told by those who were there that it was a wonderful celebration of his life and a very appropriate send off.

And that is the point I wish to make. Three years ago we were all saddened by the news of Terry's passing, and after the initial mourning period the committee for the 2016 Convention sat down and discussed what we want to do at the Convention. We all decided that we wanted the Convention to be a celebration of Terry's life and work and not a weekend long memorial or wake.

We wanted a joyous event that is about the amazing author who brought all of us together, and we still hold this opinion for the next Convention, so we are going to go on focusing on celebrating Discworld.

With that in mind, we will not be creating any official programme item to commemorate the amazing people and members of the community who have passed away since the last Convention. That said, I will happily have a chat in the bar and raise a glass to them, so please feel free to look me up if you wish to do the same.
